My Favourite Tips for a Stress-Free Family Photoshoot

Planning a photoshoot with your little ones? As the mom of a lively 2.5-year-old, I totally get how important it is to capture those precious moments when they’re small. But let’s be real, photoshoots can be a bit stressful and overwhelming, especially when active and energetic littles are involved!

As a family photographer (and, well, a mom), I've picked up a few game-changing tricks along the way that have helped turn our family photoshoots into enjoyable experiences for everyone:

  1. Get them excited: Have a chat with your kids about the photoshoot in advance. Tell them what's in store, how much fun it'll be, and reassure them that it's cool to be themselves.

  2. Comfy clothes are KEY: Let your little ones wear outfits they feel comfy and confident in. Skip anything that might bug them or distract during the shoot. Matching colors or themes can add a nice touch too!

  3. Time it right: Plan the photoshoot when your kids are well-rested and fed. Happy and relaxed kids are more likely to join in and have a blast.

  4. Bring their favourites: Consider bringing their beloved toys, blankets, or props. These familiar items can help them relax and add a personal touch to the pics.

  5. Practice makes perfect poses: Spend some time practicing fun poses or silly faces with your kids. Turn it into a playful game! It'll help them feel comfy in front of the camera and shake off any jitters.

  6. SNACKS: Pack some yummy snacks and drinks to keep their energy up during the shoot. It’s also a great distraction if needed.

  7. Stay patient and cheerful: Patience is key, especially with the little ones. Keep up the positive vibes and give lots of encouragement. A little praise goes a long way in boosting their confidence.

  8. Let your kids be themselves: Encourage their natural goofiness and giggles. The most heartwarming moments often come from them just being their awesome selves.

  9. Trust your photographer: Your photographer knows their stuff. Follow their lead and guidance. They’ve got clever tricks to make your kids shine in front of the camera.

  10. Celebrate: After the shoot, celebrate the awesome time you had! Chat about the funny moments and tell your kids how proud you are of them. Reflect on the memories made during the session.
